My Grandmother’s Best Acne Cleanser Solution

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

With so many people suffering from acne, zits, pimples, blackheads and other skin blemishes there has been a massive promotion of acne fighting products intended to cure one of the most harassing skin conditions that equally affects both young and old alike. You’ve seen the skin cleansers stocked at your local drug stores. I’m talking about items such as blackhead and acne removal strips, various skin conditioning scrubs and toners and the more expensive acne fighting masks that promise to rid you of your zit causing skin blemishes and impurities. With so many choices one has to wonder what is the best acne cleanser and where can it be purchased?

Most consumers start looking for the best acne cleanser in their nearest name brand supermarket or store, such as Wal-Mart or Rite Aid. For my own personal acne fighting solutions I’ve always been partial to using Walgreen’s due to their wide selection of acne products and their competitive prices (the friendly staff at my Walgreen’s adds a nice touch). Like everyone else I do my shopping for the right skin blemish product in order to eliminate unwanted blackheads and to prevent embarrassing zits from happening in the first place. The main problem I’ve found in my quest to locate the best acne fighting cleanser is that some products work better then others - that is they actually do help clean the pores of your skin in order to remove any clogged debris thereby preventing an outbreak of acne. Unfortunately obtaining the miracle zit fighting cleanser can be a long drawn out process and a very costly one as these items are by no means cheap in price.

In order to help lower the cost of buying an acne eliminating product you can try shopping at a Sam’s Club or a Costco. They normally require a large purchase in order to qualify for a big discount in the price. This works great if you know what the best acne cleanser is for your particular skin condition. For some lucky individuals they never really need to pay for a high priced acne and zit fighting product. They are fortunate enough to have skin that responds well to regular soap or other lower priced herbal applications and blackhead remedies.

Incidentally if you’re really looking for a low cost acne fighting solution you can try the following recommendation that was inspired by my Grandmother (who never suffered from acne conditions for a single day in her life). Mix some plain yogurt (any brand will do) with some cornmeal and oatmeal in a small bowl. This combination will create a solution that mimics the rather expensive exfoliating products you see advertised on TV and on the shelves of your supermarkets in the acne fighting section. After mixing all three ingredients you should have a rubbing compound that will effectively absorb the oil and dirt that has collected in your skin pores. This gentle cleansing action will keep your skin healthy looking and free from skin blemishes such as zits and blackheads. Best of all it’s in a price range that anyone can afford.

So there you have it my Grandmother’s secret recipe for a skin exfoliating solution that truly is one of the best acne cleansers money can buy.

Choosing The Right Acne Cleanser

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

You see acne cleanser ads every day and all of them do promise a kind of miracle cure, though very few actually do cure acne. I’ve been leading a war against acne for years, but even having reduced the fast food to once per day, all the cleansers I’ve used so far either do nothing or do so little good that it makes no difference at the end. And what is more, they not only curing it but even making it worse sometimes, drying the skin more than the necessary. And then I start from the beginning with the greasy meals that are supposed to compensate for the dehydrated skin and I do not think I can continue with that any longer.

Looking for a cure for acne you have to know that still no matter how advanced science and technology are, there is no effective cure for acne. Yes you can believe me because my face in the moment has more craters on it than the moon itself. Of course some cleansers are not as bad as others, however they are so few and hard to find. And what is more is that even if you decide to go for the most expensive one it is still no good at all. So why then pay a fortune for it, if it still does what the rest of them do - nothing. In my opinion there is nothing as stupid as that, don’t you have anything better to spend your money for?

To be honest I have generally tried all known to mankind types of acne cleansers, starting from the simplest, basic ones all the way through to the most technologically advanced and specially formulated ones. And of all those cleansers the one that is still my favorite cleanser today is the Wych-hazel. This all natural astringent has effects very similar to the ones of the rubbing spirit, but without being so rough to the skin. Although it never actually cured my acne, it never made my skin go dry and peel off as lots of others did, and it actually did improve the condition of my skin and beauty.

Apart from the cleanser itself, it is very important to use mild soap, especially if it is possible to get special acne cleanser soap. It is so important because acne itself is a type of dermal irritation normal soap does irritate the skin every time you use it, so it can always make it worse than you have ever imagined. If you do have acne problems don’t just go for the most advertised cleanser, go for the natural treatment, it has proved to be better.

Cystic Acne Treatment

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

Normal zits are already unpleasant enough, but cystic acne is a much more painful and potentially scarring experience for your skin (and your self esteem!). There is no “easy” remedy for getting rid of acne cysts, but there are certainly some treatment options that can help speed the process, as well as some things that you should be sure NOT to do. This advice is meant for acne sufferers with a mild to average number of cysts. If you have severe cystic acne that covers your face and body, you should really seek the advice of a dermatologist immediately, as an affliction such as this can leave your skin scarred for life.

Understanding cystic acne:

Unlike the small whitehead pustules that most people with acne experience on the surface of their skin, cystic acne appears as large irritated bumps, often with the pustule hidden deep beneath the skin’s surface. These cysts are caused when hormonal shifts result in your skin glands overproducing oil (sebum) at an unnatural rate. The gland becomes swollen and eventually bursts, but not before the sebum has swelled and hardened into a clump too large to escape by means of your pores. The irritation from your gland bursting results in inflammation, and buried pustule can remain in your skin for a very long time.

What to do:

The first thing to keep in mind is what you should not do. Never try to force a deep cyst to the surface of your skin prematurely. Trying to force cysts to burst is one of the major causes of acne scars, and will often leave your face looking much worse than it did before.

There are some things that you can still do to help. Strong acne creams with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide will help speed the healing process by killing the bacteria that forms in the cyst. Anti-inflammatory treatments such as Neosporin can also help by taking some of the red out of the inflamed region. After this, it simply takes patience and the discipline not to pick at your skin. Your cysts will eventually be broken down by the body, and this usually takes less time than healing from the inflammation caused by forcing them out.

Prevention:

Cystic acne happens below the surface of your skin and has very little to do with personal hygene. Creams and cleansers will not help much at all in preventing it. You need to target your oil glands in order to counter those hormonal shifts. Start with a daily multivitamin to make sure you’re getting the minimum of essential nutrients that your body needs to metabolize oil, and then consider other supplements.

Zinc is an important mineral in regulating the activity of your oil glands, as well as being a powerful antioxidant. Taking an extra 30-50 mg per day of Zinc has helped many acne sufferers. Vitamin B5 is also a key ingredient in fighting excess oil. B5 is necessary in order to produce Coenzyme-A, which in turn is needed for the metabolism of skin oil. Supplementing with 5-10 grams of vitamin B5 (less if time-released) has helped many acne sufferers get their skin under control by enhancing oil metabolism. Since cystic acne is caused by excessive oil production, this may be exactly what you need.

If nothing else works for you, see a dermatologist, as you may need a prescription treatment such as Accutane (a vitamin A derivative that directly lowers your production of skin oil). However, this should only be a last resort, as the side-effects from prescription acne treatments can sometimes be more serious than the acne.
